Kitchen Fire

Tuesday, May 11, 2010 On Tuesday May 11, 2010 at approximately 1315 hours Harford County 911 received a call reporting a dwelling fire in the 1700 block of Cannongate Rd in Forest Hill. Units from the Fallston (Co. 13), Bel Air (Co. 3), Jarrettsville (Co. 7) Volunteer Fire Companies in Harford County and the Long Green (Sta. 38) Volunteer Fire Company in Baltimore County were dispatched, and were advised that the caller was reporting a kitchen fire in the neighboring residence with a burned occupant. First arriving Engine 1311 reported “nothing evident” from a two story dwelling. Upon further investigation, the status was upgraded to a “working” kitchen fire. Medic 1393 arrived and located a burn victim at the neighbor’s residence, suffering from burns over 50% of her body. As crews from Fallston, Jarrettsville and Bel Air Volunteer Fire Companies performed an aggressive interior attack and primary searches the fire was contained to the kitchen area with smoke damage throughout the home. The fire is believed to have originated from grease igniting while cooking. The victim was transported to Johns Hopkins-Bayview Burn Center by Medic 1393 for evaluation and treatment of her injuries. Damage to the structure and contents was estimated at $35,000. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is handling the investigation of the cause and origin of the fire.
